Current FDA Approved Lasers

The first laser to be approved to treat acne is the Candela Smoothbeam laser.  It is a 1450 nm wavelength diode laser.  Currently, the diode laser is the most effective and commonly used laser to treat acne.  It also improves any acne scarring and fine lines or wrinkles.  Basically, you will be receiving multiple benefits from using a diode laser treatment for acne.

The Nlite laser also has been approved by FDA for the treatment of acne.

The Aramis laser is a glass erbium laser operating at 1540 nm. Quantel Medical has proposed to FDA that the Aramis II laser is equivalent in treating back acne just as well as the Candela Smoothbeam.  The testings concluded that the Aramis II laser can be just as effective as the Candela Smoothbeam for acne on the back.  Please note below the actual application by FDA for each laser.  You will notice that the Aramis has only received approval for acne on the back.  The aramis laser is not commonly used by professionals or dermatologist for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

The proper use of lasers may result in permanent acne clearing.

Other light therapy such as blue light therapy are not laser treatments.  Blue light therapy may treat symptoms of acne, but does not treat the source or cause.
